Covering Boxes With Fabric
Boxes are great to have around the house. They can be used to hold junk that we are afraid to get rid of and come in handy when it is time to move everything into a new home. Sometimes though we would like to use them around the house to hold toys or other items.
The problem with this is that are tacky and in their normal state you don’t want to use them when they look like this. Rather than giving up and throwing them out you can easily cover them with some fabric. This is easy and will save you a great deal of money.
Try to use boxes that do not have any logos or writing on the outside. If you have no choice – but to use these than choose darker fabric and a few layers of it so that the words do not show up underneath.
Go through what fabric you have at the house or go to the dollar per yard sale at Wal-Mart or Joanns. Put the fabric against the box to make sure that it isn’t see through. Wrap it loosely round the box and be sure that it is enough to cover the in and out of it and the lid.
Spread out newspapers over your work space in the garage, porch, or other well ventilated area. Position the cloth so that it will cover the box. The less cuts you have to make the best. You don’t have to worry about covering the bottom of the box or all of the inside. You can easily glue a white piece of cardboard to the inside of the bottom and the inside of the lid.
Spray down a portion of the box and press the fabric up to it. Make sure that it is flat. any seams in the fabric should be at the back where they cannot be seen.
Place ribbon around the edges of the lid and make a ribbon pull tab to make it easier to open.
